Burglary suspect claimed to be federal agent while inside Oconee Co. home

A Salem man charged with burglary and assault claimed to be a federal agent after Oconee County deputies arrested him Tuesday morning.

Andrew Michael Wilson, 38, of Sunrise Drive, was booked into the Oconee County jail around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

A homeowner on Sunrise Drive reported that a man was seen at the top of his basement steps peering into his living room, according to a statement from the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.

The homeowner physically removed the man from the home when the man swung at the him in attempt to hit him.

Deputies arrived and identified the man as Wilson.

While investigating, Wilson told deputies he was “playing a game” and was a federal law enforcement agent. He could not provide any credentials, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Wilson is charged with third-degree assault and battery and first-degree burglary.
