Sawed-off shotgun allegedly found in Oxnard gang member's vehicle prompts arrest

An Oxnard man was arrested Monday night after police found a sawed-off shotgun in his vehicle, authorities said.

At about 6:50 p.m., Oxnard Police Department officers contacted a man they described as a known gang member who was in his vehicle in the 500 block of North G Street. The block is located southeast of Doris Avenue and North H Street in the Wilson neighborhood.

During the interaction, officers located a loaded, sawed-off shotgun with illegal modifications inside the vehicle, according to police. The gun had been altered so its barrel was shortened to a prohibited length, police said.

The man, identified as Daniel Garcia, 29, was arrested without incident on suspicion of possessing a prohibited firearm, a felony offense, authorities said. He was also arrested on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm in a vehicle and was booked into Ventura County jail, according to authorities.
