Missouri farm and commodity leaders push for trade dispute resolution

Missouri farm leaders are pushing for a quick resolution to trade issues, but say they trust the Trump administration is handling them appropriately.

A discussion among Missouri commodity group leaders during the Missouri State Fair indicates that they want an end to trade disputes and non-scientific trade barriers.  Mike Deering with the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association says his group supports the president’s efforts to end what Deering calls political trade.

“We’re going to be patient,” Deering told Brownfield Ag News Monday at the State Fair.  “We encourage the president to get a quick resolve to this, but we’re stand by him.”

Missouri Corn Growers Board member Gary Porter tells Brownfield he was part of a delegation that talked in the past month to U.S. Ambassador to China Terry Branstad.

“He gave some encouraging news,” Porter told Brownfield.  “If we can work out a good trade deal with China, our ag exports could increase by five times, and with the population of China, we think that could be huge.”

Other commodity leaders on the panel pushed for expediting negotiations on the North American Free Trade Agreement.
