Dairy processor expects trade uncertainty to be resolved before new plant opens

A spokesperson for an Irish-based nutrition company says global protein demand is growing regardless of trade uncertainties in the U.S.

“Our eyes are on trade, it just makes business investment a little uncertain.”

John Dardis with Glanbia tells Brownfield by the time their nearly half a billion-dollar milk processing joint venture in Michigan is running in 2020, NAFTA should be resolved as well as other trade issues.  “The dairy farmers are facing the pressure right now.  Obviously, we’ve like to have the plant running tomorrow but these things take time to do them right.”

He says consumer demand for natural cheese and protein in the U.S. and internationally will be beneficial for struggling dairy farmers.

The plant will be able to produce about 300 million pounds of cheese annually and has room to grow.
