Corn exports up despite trade uncertainty

The head of USDA’s Outlook Board says this week’s export forecasts have been difficult to make but corn exports stand out.

“It’s just an unfamiliar pattern of trade right now.”

Seth Meyer says corn shipments through June are four percent higher in volume and five percent higher in value compared to last year. He says it’s because of, “South American shifting of what they’re exporting in transit and problems elsewhere in the world in terms of their corn production.”

China is not a major buyer of U.S. corn. Meyer says soybean export volumes and values are down for the year.
