CropLife & Corteva respond to chlorpyrifos ruling

The CEO of CropLife America says he hopes the EPA will consider all avenues of appeal for a court ruling that orders the ban of the pesticide chlorpyrifos in 60 days.

Jay Vroom released a statement saying they’re disappointed in the decision this week by the Ninth Circuit Appeals Court.

A statement from Corteva, the maker of the chemical, says they agree with the dissenting judge’s opinion in the split decision: That chlorpyrifos is a critical pest management tool for growers around the world and that regulatory agencies have carefully looked at the safety and benefits of the product and approve of its use.

Groups that brought the challenge say the decision to ban chlorpyrifos is the right one and long overdue for health safety.

We are disappointed by today’s decision by the Ninth Circuit Court, ordering EPA to “…cancel all registrations for Chlorpyrifos within 60 days.” We hope that after review of the decision EPA will consider all avenues of appeal. Corteva statement:
Chlorpyrifos is a critical pest management tool used by growers around the world to manage a large number of pests, and regulatory bodies in 79 countries have looked at the science, carefully evaluated the product and its significant benefits and continued to approve its use.  We note that this was a split decision of the panel and we agree with the dissenting judge’s opinion.  We would hope and expect that the government will consider all of its appellate options to challenge the majority’s decision.  We will continue to support the growers who need this important product.
