Reports: Court orders EPA to ban chlorpyrifos

The EPA reportedly has been ordered to ban a pesticide used in soybeans and specialty crops by a federal appeals court. Reports says the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, in a two to one decision, said there was no justification for former EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt’s decision to allow farmers to keep using chlorpyrifos. One study says chlorpyrifos is a danger to children’s health. But, Dow AgroSciences has said there is overwhelming evidence that the pesticide does NO harm when used as directed and meets the regulatory standard for humans.

The appeals court decision says federal law requires the EPA to ban the use of a pesticides on food if any harm is associated from exposure to the chemical. The American Soybean Association has declined comment.
