Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope you’ve all had a fantastic week. It’s been a rather eventful one here. It started last Friday. Brian and I went out to dinner and were discussing, of all things, ferrets. You know we ferret-sat for Brianna last week with her new ferret.

I have never wanted a ferret. Ever.

My sister and my mom have had them and, although they’re cute, they stink. I thought the same thing about Brianna’s first ferret even though he was super-cute. There was something about this ferret, though. Brian and I got attached to him and didn’t want to see him go.

So, last Friday, I had been sending Brianna links to ferrets on Craigslist to see if we could buy her another one and keep the one we’d gotten for her. Yeah, I was that bad.

She didn’t like any of them. She wanted her ferret.

While we were at dinner, Brianna called to say she was coming up later that evening – a little bit to see Brian on his birthday but mostly to claim her ferret. As soon as I got off the phone with her, Brian asked if I wanted to go to PetCo.

Yes, we were seriously considering buying another ferret – to trade Brianna for the one we bought her. Go ahead. Laugh. It’s okay.

We didn’t expect them to have any because we had called all the PetCo stores around us the weekend before we went to pick up the new ferret last weke.

When we got there, they had one ferret – a sweet little four-month-old female who’d been returned twice. The first owners thought they could just let her run around the house unsupervised all day and got mad when she chewed stuff up. The second ones were trying to keep her in a small guinea pig cage.

Before we left, Brian had already decided that she was our ferret. Brianna was not getting her. I usually name the animals, but before we were out of the parking lot, he had named her Sophie.

She is the cutest, sweetest, most playful little thing. As much as I love her already, I think Brian is even crazier about her.

Does she stink? Yeah. I mean, mostly it’s her pen even though I have literally cleaned it every day. But that’s okay. Her sheer adorableness makes up for it. (That doesn’t mean that we’re not looking closely at her diet and adding additives to her food to try to cut down on the odor.)

We have told Brianna that she has to bring Dobby (named for the elf in Harry Potter who, like the ferret, loved to steal socks) to visit whenever she visits. If you think one ferret is cute, you should see two of them playing together.

Also last Friday, Megan got offered the job she interviewed for on Thursday and really, really wanted. She was so excited. Not only is it a place she really wanted to work, but it’s a significant raise from what she was making.

Then, on Tuesday, she took her road test to get her driver’s license. She passed! My baby can now drive all by herself. {sigh} I don’t know where the years go, y’all.

Now, I’m off to enjoy what should be a relaxing weekend. I guess I’ll have to start thinking about planning for school soon. But not today. Have a fantastic weekend!

  1. I’ve never been interested in owning a ferret either, although they are super-cute and interesting. Congrats to Megan on the job and on getting her license!
