A new bridge to Canada

Ground has been broken this week for a new international bridge from Michigan to Canada, a project 20-years in the making.

Michigan Farm Bureau president Carl Bednarski says the Gordie Howe International Bridge will increase opportunities for farmers and rural communities and provide long-term economic growth.

The Windsor-Detroit corridor is the busiest commercial land border crossing between Canada and the United States. Many leaders are optimistic the new bridge will positively strengthen relations between the two countries.

Once complete, Canada’s Port of Entry will be the largest Canadian port on the Canada-United States border and the United States Port of Entry will be one of the largest in North America. The bridge will be six-lanes 1.5 miles long and financed by Canada.

Michigan ag exports to Canada are more than one billion dollars annually.
