Iowa Governor Reynolds testifies at EPA hearing

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds says it’s time for the EPA to stop undermining the Renewable Fuel Standard and end the “destruction” of ethanol demand.

Reynolds testified Wednesday at the EPA’s RFS hearing in Michigan. She said any ethanol blending exemptions provided to small refiners should be reallocated to other refiners and included in the final rule on blending volumes. In Reynolds words, “15 billion gallons must mean 15 billion gallons”.

Reynolds also called on the agency to open up the market for higher ethanol blends—E15 and above—to be sold year round.

Reynolds said the RFS is critical to Iowa farmers, rural communities and consumers “in all four corners of the state”.
