When Rebecca Dallet won election to the Wisconsin Supreme Court in April, it meant another opening in August on the circuit court bench in Milwaukee.

Gov. Scott Walker sought applications from interested lawyers on June 8, but only got one -- Andrew A. Jones of Whitefish Bay -- filed the required materials by the June 22 deadline.

Jones is a partner at Husch Blackwell whose practice has concentrated on defending healthcare companies, local governments and employers, according to his firm bio. He earned a bachelor's degree at Duke and his law degree from the Unversity of Wisconsin in 1994.

A Walker spokeswoman, Amy Hasenberg, said this week that the governor's office is reviewing the application.

If Jones earns appointment, he would face election in April 2019.

Dallet beat Sauk County Circuit Judge Michael Screnock in the April election to replace Justice Michael Gableman, who is not seeking a second ten-year term on the high court.
