Celebration of 150 years set for Saturday at the Old Dowlin Mill

Supporters to gather at the birthplace of Ruidoso

  • Celebration begins at 9:30 a.m. July 21

Supporters of the Old Dowlin Mill, long considered the birthplace of Ruidoso and a temporary hiding place for Billy the Kid, will gather at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, July 21, to celebrate 150 years from its founding in 1868.

The water wheel that ran the grist mill survived as did the adobe walls at left, but the interior was gutted and the roof collapsed.

The mill was gutted by fire in December 2017, but the exterior adobe walls still stand and the water wheel that powered the grist mill survived.

Owner Delana Clements promised more details Friday. about the celebration at 641 Sudderth Drive and perhaps future plans.

The destruction is massive at the Old Mill.
From the hill behind the Old Mill, the interior destruction is clear.
