ASA says non-tariff solutions are needed

The vice president of the American Soybean Association says the group is disappointed by the new tariffs being proposed by President Trump.

Davie Stephens says the trade tensions are adding to the financial pain that farmers are already facing because of the down farm economy.

“The concern is China is our biggest customer and how is that going to look going into the future if we all lose our biggest customer,” he says. “We’re all concerned because it’s the unknown.”

The Western Kentucky farmer says the tariffs are negatively impacting rural communities.

“It’s also going to effect our rural areas and that’s the communities we live in and work in and most farmers have been raised in,” he says. “Seeing that happen is a concern everyone.”

Stephens says the ASA would like the administration to find a non-tariff solution to address its trading concerns with china.
