The African Children's Choir performs July 20 in Ruidoso.

COMMUNITY BRIEFS JULY 18 to JULY 25:

JULY 20: The African Children Choir will perform at 7 p.m., July 20, at First Baptist Church, Country Club Drive, Ruidoso. Come hear the music and be enchanted.

JULY 21: Christmas in July garage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m,., July 21 at the Church of the Holy Mount, 121 Mescalero Trail. Proceeds benefit St. Anne’s Guild. A roast beef, mashed potato, green bean with bacon and garden salad luncheon will be served from 11:30 am. to 1 p.m. for $12 adults ad $6, children under 12. The church cookbook also is on sale for $16.95, along with toffee and bake goods, handmade goods from the women of Palomas, Mexico.

JULY 23: At 11:30  a.m., “Our Hospital – an Update,” will be presented at the Ruidoso Federated Woman's Club by Todd Oberhue, Lincoln County Medical Center’s administrator. He will speak on the progress and planning of the community’s new hospital. The public is invited to attend and a potluck lunch is provided by club members after the program. The club house is at 116 S. Evergreen. 

JULY 23-27: 15th Annual Peace Village Kids's Day Camp. This year the annual Peace Village day camp is from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., July 23--27, at High Mesa Healing Center, 133 Mader Lane in Alto. High Mesa Healing Center is on 40 acres, which creates a unique experience for campers. The day camp has been operating annually for 15 years. It has been hosted by High Mesa’s founder, Barbara Mader and is a ministry of First Christian Church. The camp’s director, Susan Finch, has been with the camp since 2008, and brings decades of experience caring for children as a former principal and educator. A beautiful setting and tremendous leadership creates the perfect environment for Peace Village, a multicultural day camp for kids ages 6-13.

JULY 28: The Ruidoso Grindstone Trail runs of 4 mile WAVE at 7:45 a.m., 8.5 mile Wave at 7:30 a.m., and half marathon Wave at 7:30 a.m., promote the multiple use trail system available at Grindstone Lake in Ruidoso in the Sacramento Mountains at 6,900 feet. Proceeds benefit Ski Apache Adaptive Sports. The race starts and finishes aty Wingfield Park in midton Ruodposo June 28. JULY 28-29: Corona Days, the annual summer festival in the village on the northern edge of Lincoln County, offers two days of family fun and brings together current and former residents, graduates, visitors and friends. Friday's events include a kids rodeo and goat roping, community jam session, hamburger fry, musical presentation by Mp2, and a dance with the Graham Brothers Band. Saturday's events include a Veterans Memorial Service, parade, vendors, carnival entertainment and a lunch to support the Corona FFA. A ranch rodeo begins at 1 p.m. The Duck Derby sets sail at 2 p.m. and there are plans for a beer garden downtown. Both days there will be a book sale to benefit the public library, which will also be holding a contest featuring photographers' images of the Corona area, natural landscapes and ranching life. A quilt show will be open both days featuring local artists. More than 20 years worth of Corona Public School yearbook photos will be available for browsing and to take home. Donations to the school's yearbook program are encouraged. Family and class reunions are planned throughout the weekend as well. AUG. 4:  Help Us Help You, a benefit for the Lincoln County Volunteer Fire Departments. Bob “The Fireman” and Stacy Skaggs will put on a country music show/dance at 6:30 p.m., to benefit the Lincoln County Volunteer Firefighters at Cree Meadows Country Club. Everyone is invited; free admission; Steak night, call and reserve a table and steak; bring the entire family out for a fun evening, dance or just sit back and enjoy some country music with Bob The Fireman and Stacy Skaggs. Any donation that is given will go to Support the Lincoln County Volunteer Firefighters

AUG. 15:  Lincoln Day Dinner, 6 p.m., keynote speaker Steve Pearce, Republican Gubernatorial Candidate, at Alto Lakes Golf & Country Club. Tickets are $50/person, contact Ann at 575-808-0115 for tickets and more information. Hosted by the Republican Party of Lincoln County.

AUG. 18: Lincoln County Bird Club in conjunction with Smokey Bear Ranger Station presents "Out of town company: birds that spend the summer in our mountains" at 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Aug. 18, at Smokey's Garden at the Ranger Station, 901 Mechem, Ruidoso.
