Milwaukee police investigate a death on North Old World 3rd Street Tuesday morning.

The death of a man killed during a fight early Tuesday in downtown Milwaukee is being investigated as a homicide, police said.

The man died shortly after 3:30 a.m. in the 700 block of North Old World 3rd Street, the department said in a news release.  A suspect is in custody.

If the man's death is ruled a homicide by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office, it would be at least the fifth to occur on Old World 3rd Street since Aug. 8, 1999, when a double shooting killed a 25-year-old man and wounded his 20-year-old brother outside Emerald City, 1001 N. Old World 3rd St.

On July 15, 2006, two men, ages 22 and 29, were shot to death when a fight inside Visions, 1013 N. Old World 3rd St., spilled outside.

And on May 15, 2010, a 23-year-old man was fatally shot outside Martini Mike's, 730 N. Old World 3rd St.
