This will be Bryce Harper's last Home Run Derby

Bryce Harper jokes with teammates during the team photo shoot.

WASHINGTON — Take a good last look at Nationals All-Star Bryce Harper in the Home Run Derby Monday night because he plans to join Yankees sluggers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton as a mere spectator in the future events.

“This will probably be the last time I do it,’’ Harper said. “It’s in D.C., that’s the only reason I did it. It’s so tiring, people don’t understand that. Your forearms hurt. Your back hurts. Your oblique hurts. Everything.

“I mean, it’s a long time to keep swinging and swinging and swinging , especially when its 100 degrees outside. It’s a different animal. It’s something that you do it once, you win, you feel like you’re done.

“It’s definitely tiring.’’

The 2018 event at Nationals Park is the second time that Harper has participated in the derby. In 2013, he reached the finals but lost in the finals against Yoenis Cespedes at Citi Field.
