Chicago Hotel Loyalty 2014-Q1 hotel promotions Marriott Hotels Marriott Rewards (replaced by Marriott Bonvoy)

Marriott Rewards 2,500 bonus points in Chicago to March 30, 2014

Marriott Rewards is offering an additional 2,500 bonus points for 2-night weekend stays, Thursday to Sunday, from January 1 – March 30, 2014. This offer is for downtown Chicago Marriott brand hotels. Requires special rate code: MRP.

Rate Analysis

The surprising results of a rate analysis are not that this MRP special rate code is higher than AAA rates. The surprise is the JW Marriott is the lowest priced hotel of these five hotels for two weekends I checked.

Friday, March 7 – Sunday, March 9, 2014

JW Marriott Chicago

  • MRP rate = $139
  • AAA rate = $125

Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile

  • MRP rate = $149
  • AAA rate = $134

Residence Inn Chicago Downtown/Magnificent Mile

  • MRP rate = $139
  • AAA rate = $125.10

Renaissance Chicago Downtown

  • MRP rate = $139
  • AAA rate = $111.20

Courtyard Chicago Downtown/River North

  • MRP rate = $159
  • AAA rate = $127

This is not an especially good deal for 2,500 bonus points. The additional cost at JW Marriott is going to be $28 + tax more than AAA rate to earn 2,500 points. That is about break even.

Renaissance Chicago rate difference definitely favors lower AAA rate.

The big takeaway from this rate analysis is the comparable rates across the Chicago hotels make the JW Marriott rate a good deal for a stay at Marriott’s luxury brand.

If I recall—wasnt it something like $12.50 =1000 points for purchase?

    3000 points=$37.50

The 2 night difference in rate is $14 or more per night…or $28 for 2 nights. This extra rate amount also gets counted in taxes…..

so paying ~$35 (including taxes) just to get 2500 points vs paying $37.50 for 3,000 points. what is the better deal.

You split your two nights between different hotels–still likely getting the same rate—- you can get a free cert on top of purchasing the 3,000 points.
