Farm Bureau supports Kavanaugh nomination

American Farm Bureau supports the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh.

AFBF general counsel Ellen Steen calls the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals judge is a strong choice.

“He’s well educated (and has) all the right credentials to serve in the office, and we like what we can see about his judicial philosophy.”

President Trump nominated Kavanaugh to replace retiring justice Anthony Kennedy.

Steen tells Brownfield a lot of issues important to agriculture eventually make their way to the Supreme Court, and says the Waters of the U.S. Rule is a good example.

“Where you have a major EPA rule-making that’s been challenged in court.  That obviously is expected to go up to the Supreme Court unless it gets repealed by the Trump Administration.”

Steen says what Farm Bureau values most in a Supreme Court judge is an adherence to the word of Congress.

The National Farmers Union declined a Brownfield request to comment on the nomination of Kavanaugh.
