Some crops struggling from too much rain

A farmer in southern Minnesota says his crops are starting to go downhill because of excessive moisture.

Dan Coffman of Nicollet tells Brownfield rainfall in his area is about 250 percent above normal.

“The low spots are yellowing up from nitrogen deficiency.”

But, he says crops on pattern-tiled ground that were side-dressed early look excellent.

“We’re still hoping for a good crop, but the rest of the summer will tell the truth on that one.”

Governor Mark Dayton has made disaster declarations for 36 Minnesota counties affected by storms since the second week of June.
