Weather extremes impacting feedstuffs in Minnesota
The director of the Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association says weather extremes are having an impact on feedstuffs.
Ashley Kohls tells Brownfield farmers in southwest Minnesota are assessing crop losses following widespread flooding last week.
“But I don’t think that was extensive to where it’s going to impact feed supplies for us.”
And while there’s no shortage of hay in Minnesota, she says scarcity elsewhere has caused prices to climb.
“So for people who rely on having to purchase hay for their cattle, that’s definitely a strain on folks here in Minnesota because of that. I wouldn’t necessarily contribute it to weather here in our state, but weather elsewhere is impacting them.”
Drought conditions are limiting hay supplies in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.
