Naples police on Tuesday arrested a man accused of fatally shooting a LaBelle man in 2016.

Shabazz Lamar Lester, 26, of Golden Gate, faces a charge of second-degree murder in the killing of Anthony Lee Sanchez, according to a Naples Police Department news  release.

Police responded to a call about multiple gunshots near the 500 block of 14th Street North on Nov. 11, 2016.

A man, later identified as Anthony Lee Sanchez, was lying on the yard in front of a home and had a gunshot wound to his chest. Sanchez was taken to NCH Baker Hospital Downtown, where he later died, according to police.

Detectives identified Lester as the person who shot Sanchez, the news release states.

On Monday, detectives secured an arrest warrant for Lester and served it at the Naples Jail Center. Lester was being held on drug-related charges stemming from a 2017 arrest, court records show.
