Azura LLC's residential memory care facility proposed for Brookfield would feature four one-story buildings with various color schemes.

A Wisconsin company that operates residential care facilities for older people with memory loss is proposing a center in Brookfield.

Azura LLC wants to develop the assisted living facility, for 80 residents, at 16030 W. Capitol Drive. The 8.2-acre site is mostly undeveloped farm land.

The project would feature four one-story buildings, each with units for 20 residents, according to a city Department of Community Development report.

There also would be an activity garden, and an existing barn would be used for site maintenance and garden equipment. A seasonal farm produce stand will remain at the site.

The Plan Commission at its Monday night meeting set a public hearing for the proposal, which needs a conditional use permit.

A hearing date hasn't yet been scheduled, said Dan Ertl, community development director.

Wauwatosa-based Azura operates residential memory care facilities in 13 Wisconsin communities, including Oak Creek and Oconomowoc.

Also, Azura plans to develop a facility in Fox Point, next to The Chiswick at Dunwood apartment community Mandel Group Inc. is building.

There are slightly more than 25,000 people over the age of 65 — about 19.1 percent of the population — living within a five-mile radius  of the proposed Brookfield facility, which would be called Azura at Mierow Farm, according to Azura.

"Additionally, based on the statistical prevalence of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, it is likely that many as 3,200 people within this area are affected by some form of Alzheimer’s or dementia," according to the company's proposal.
