Incoming superintendent to speak

Mark Mullins, the incoming superintendent of Brevard Public Schools will be the guest speak at the upcoming monthly business breakfast put on by the Melbourne Regional Chamber of East Central Florida.

The event runs from 7-9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Crowne Plaza Melbourne Oceanfront, 2605 Highway A1A.

Early bird pricing, $24 per person, ends Monday. After that the cost is $33.

Mullins, who has been the district’s chief operating office, has worked for the Brevard school district since 1994. He started as a math teacher at Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High and rose through the ranks as an assistant principal of Southwest Middle School and Palm Bay High School and then the principal of the now closed Clearlake Middle School. For six years, he oversaw the 29 schools and principals in the south part of the county as an area superintendent.

He is in line to replace Desmond Blackburn who recently announced his resignation to accept another education job.

Brevard Veterans Resources Network event 

The Brevard Veterans Resources Network will hold its quarterly forum for Space Coast veterans and military supporters f rom 9-11:30 a.m. July 19 at Eastern Florida State College’s Cocoa campus, Building 11.

The theme of the forum is “Viera Clinic and Veteran Health Care.” Dr. Linda Bortugno, chief medical officer at the VA Viera Outpatient Clinic since 2014, will speak. She has worked at the clinic since 2000.

The Animal Emergency and Critical Care Center of Brevard recently was purchased by National Veterinary Associates Inc. of Agoura, California.

Animal Emergency and Critical Care Center of Brevard, 2281 Eau Gallie Blvd, Melbourne, offers specialty referral and around–the–clock emergency care.

National Veterinary Associates is the largest, independent operator of veterinary hospitals in the United States with more than 500 locations.

Dr. Curt Barchard is the managing veterinarian at the Animal Emergency and Critical Care Center, as well as being a board-certified canine rehabilitation therapist.
