Giuliani Says He Told Trump Not to Pardon Michael Cohen

Trump

Cogency has never been one of Rudy Guiliani’s strong suits. Remember his disastrous Fox interview with Sean Hannity where he admitted that Trump paid the $130,000 to Stormy Daniels?

Trump “wasn’t told, but even if he was told, he wouldn’t have remembered it — like I wouldn’t have remembered it.”

Trump “never said this to the FBI. He never said it under oath.”

Today was more of the same. Washington Post:

“I have advised the president, which he understands: no discussion of pardons,” Giuliani said in an appearance on ABC News’s “This Week.” But he seemed not to rule out that the president might change his mind.

“You can’t abridge your power to do it. That’s something you can decide down the road, one way or the other,” Giuliani said.

While Giuliani said he had advised Trump against pardoning Cohen, he also argued that to rule out a pardon “wouldn’t be fair to — to the president, wouldn’t be fair to Cohen, wouldn’t be fair to future presidents. But the fact is there’s no reason for a pardon right now . . . and, quite honestly, it would just confuse everything.”

“Michael Cohen should — should cooperate with the government,” he said. “We have — we have no reason to believe he did anything wrong. The president did nothing wrong with him, so we’ve gone through every document we can. We see no evidence of it.”

Here’s an interesting thought: Last week Michael Cohen ended a joint defense agreement with Trump’s attorneys and that is exactly what Michael Flynn right before he flipped. Business Insider:

In late November, Flynn notified Trump's legal team that he would end a similar agreement. Roughly a week later he pleaded guilty in the Mueller investigation to lying to the FBI and agreed to cooperate with the Russia inquiry. [...]

"Michael Cohen is preparing the way to flip on POTUS," said Mitchell Epner, an attorney at Rottenberg Lipman Rich who was previously an assistant US attorney for the District of New Jersey.

"Ending the joint defense agreement with POTUS and the Trump Organization makes no sense in the world where Michael Cohen is going to fight," he told Business Insider. "It makes complete sense in the world where Michael Cohen flips."

It doesn’t matter anyway if Cohen flips if Giuliani is right, right? Right.
