CCSO: Estates woman fatally shot father, stayed in home with his body

Rocquel Eloise Priser

A 38-year-old Golden Gate Estates woman was arrested Thursday and charged in the shooting death of her father, whose corpse remained in the house since Sunday.

Rocquel E. Priser faces counts of unpremeditated murder with a depraved mind and committing a felony with a weapon, firearm or aggravated battery. She remained held without bail Friday at the Naples Jail Center.

Collier County deputies said they arrived at Physician's Regional-Pine Ridge on Thursday in response to Susan C. Priser initiating a welfare check on her husband, Rocky E. Priser. She told deputies that on Sunday, she watched as her daughter, Rocquel, shot her husband in the head with a handgun at their home at 4420 Fourth Ave. S.E.

On Tuesday, Susan Priser fled into woods behind their home out of fear for her safety. She fell and injured herself, yelling for help. Rocquel Priser heard her mother's cries for help, deputies said in a report.

Priser was taken to the hospital Tuesday for injuries suffered in the fall. At no time until Thursday did Susan Priser or her daughter tell authorities about Rocky Priser's body in the home, deputies said.

Susan Priser told deputies at the hospital that she did not report the death earlier because she was in fear after her daughter told her to not call police.

When deputies arrived at the home Thursday, they said they found Rocquel Priser barricaded inside. Once entry was made two hours after they arrived, deputies detained Priser, searched the home and found her father's decomposing body wrapped in a cloth.

Rocquel Priser refused to answer detectives' questions.

However, when they told her that her mother said she watched Rocquel shoot her husband, Rocquel told detectives several times that her mother was a liar, the report states.

A medical examiner who went to the crime scene determined, during a preliminary examination of the body, that several cranial and facial fractures on Rocky Priser were consistent with a gunshot wound and that the manner of death was homicide, the report states.
