Perdue op-ed: Trump will protect farmers in China trade dispute

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue – in a USA Today opinion piece – says President Trump will protect American farmers from China’s trade retaliation.

Perdue says China “wrongly believes it can bully (U.S.) farmers to get America to back away from defending its national interests.”

Perdue referenced the 2011 intellectual property theft by Chinese nationals who dug up genetically engineered seeds from an Iowa corn field with plans of sending them back to China to reverse engineer.

The Ag Secretary says that sort of theft has only gotten worse since then and Trump’s tariffs are meant to pressure China to stop “engaging in unfair trade practices.”
