EPA postpones biofuel announcement

The EPA has postponed the announcement of its 2019 renewable fuel volumes.

Bloomberg reports that the announcement was called off on Friday because the Trump administration has restarted talks over the biofuel blending obligations waived under the small refinery exemption program.

Ethanol supporters and oil refiners are at odds over the possibility that the announcement could include a reallocation of blending obligations waived under the program.

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt faced backlash during his recent Midwest tour when he defended the waivers, saying they’re required by law. Ethanol supporters have expressed frustration over reports that waivers are being used to help bail out large oil refineries.

The EPA has until November 30 to finalize the annual biofuel targets.
