Incumbent Republican Canaveral Port Authority Commissioners Jerry Allender in District 1 and Wayne Justice in District 3 have won new four-year terms.

They were re-elected without opposition when no challengers qualified for the ballot by time the qualifying period for that office ended at noon Friday.

Justice has served as a port commissioner since January 2015, and is the current chairman of the five-member Canaveral Port Authority. He spent 37 years in the Coast Guard, retiring as a two-star admiral. He currently is a maritime consultant.

District 3 Canaveral Port Authority Commissioner Wayne Justice, a republican and the current chairman, has been re-elected without opposition.

In a statement about his re-election without opposition, Justice said: “I am grateful to and thank the people who supported my candidacy. I remain committed to doing all I can to improve Port Canaveral’s infrastructure and environment for the Port District, the Central Florida region and our nation.”

There is one contested Canaveral Port Authority race, in District 5, where incumbent Tom Weinberg is not seeking re-election.

In that race, there will be a Republican primary on Aug. 28 between Robyn Hattaway of Merritt Island and Malcolm "Mac" McLouth of Cocoa Beach.

From left, Democrat Maurice Boudreau and Republicans Robyn Hattaway and Malcolm "Mac" McLouth are candidates for Canaveral Port Authority commissioners in District 5.

The winner will face Democrat Maurice Boudreau of Merritt Island, a real estate broker, a business broker and president of the East Merritt Island Homeowners Association, in the Nov. 6 general election.

Hattaway is an attorney and runs a family real estate business.

McLouth previously served for more than three decades as a Canaveral Port Authority commissioner — from 1967 to 1996, then from 2008 to 2010. McLouth also was the port's deputy executive director of business development from 1996 to 2000, then was the port's executive director and chief executive officer from 2000 to 2004.

Canaveral Port Authority District 5 includes the Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral area and parts of Merritt Island.

Port commissioners are paid $10,444 a year.

Port commissioners must be a resident of the district they run for, but voters in all five port districts elect all the commissioners.
