Indiana FFA names Stars over Indiana

Four FFA members have been named Stars over Indiana for their Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs.

Tyler Jester of Monroe Central FFA was named the Indiana FFA State Star Farmer. He raises calves, goats, and pigs.

Jester, who started working with animals when he was 7 years old, says it’s incredible to see his hard work pay off.

“This is something I’ve wanted ever since I found out about FFA ,” he says. “It’s a dream come true.”

Ally Laker was named the Indiana FFA State Star in AgriScience.

The Dekalb FFA member says she tested the abundance of neonicotinoids in soybean seeds in one study, and then in a follow-up study she tested soybean leaves for traces of neonicotinoids after 60-day seed germination

“All of the hundreds and hundreds of hours I put in the research lab paid off and I’m forever grateful for the FFA,” she says.

Drake Davis of the Southmont FFA Chapter was named the Indiana State Star in Agricultural Placement for his work restoring antique tractors.

His advice to FFA members who want to do something similar is to keep going.

“While in my FFA career I’ve made a lot of mistakes- it’s the way you learn,” he says. “And you live by those mistakes and you make those mistakes into something good.”
