  1. Oh my goodness, that must have been so difficult. Thank you for sharing to help someone else-I have never heard of that either. Goodness, I hope you don’t have to deal with that again and are recovered!

  2. I feel like you are writing my story. I literally have had 2 surgeries for this in the past 6 weeks (with my father passing away in between the two) #lifesucksbigtime …. but I’m sitting here feeling like it could potentially be a 3rd surgery in my future. I never had heard of this before this all happened to me either & still am amazed at it all & how the body can do crazy things. I’m glad you got help & this makes me want to get a reference to a colorectal department as well. Thanks for sharing your story. … here’s my FIRST story on my blog too so you know you’re not alone 🙂 http://www.knitbygodshand.com/2018/05/so-this-past-week-has-been-pain-in-butt.html

    1. I’m so sorry you are dealing with this– and for the loss of your father. My deepest sympathies. I can’t imagine. I was going through it while on book deadline and that was hard enough. I can’t imagine walking through grief + dealing with the physical pain. Definitely get a referral to a colorectal department. They have been lifesavers to me.

    2. Hello ive had this surgery 17times in the past 8 years its recurring so much it seems like every 6-10 months it comes back . I’ve been dealing with this for such a long time and I hate it I have so much Scar Tissue on my arms do they have been so many ivs and stuff it truly is the worst part of my life

  3. Girlfriend! Sorry this happened to you, but also glad you shared with us.

So glad you mentioned the Fistula Foundation. They are doing amazing work and I’m always happy to see them get some attention.

  4. My friend’s 20 year old daughter had the same thing. She has had several procedures too. Thanks for sharing since this can happen to anyone at any time. Glad you are getting better.

  5. That is horrible, I am so sorry you had to go through that! I had never heard of that before either so I appreciate your kindness and humility in sharing it to help others. May you be blessed with complete healing and no more of this problem ever again!

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words. I figure, we all have butts. I wish I had known it could happen so I would have gotten help sooner.

  6. Jessica, I am sorry for all the pain you have gone through at such a young age. You certainly are no stranger to hospitals and pain. You can be an advocate for those who need to make decisions on elective surgeries as well as the absolute necessary surgeries.
I sure hope and pray you are over all these painful procedures.
Best of luck and many blessings.

  7. I had at least 5-10 at once and lived with them for years. They told me they couldn’t do anything it was part of having crohn’s disease. I no longer have them due to needing surgery but I never thought to go to the ER. Thanks for your story!

  8. I am going through the same pain at the present moment. A perianal trans spintheric fistula. A real pain in the butt. Just had my second operation in 4 weeks on my 63rd birthday and haven’t had an hour’s sleep since tuesday because of the pain. Hopefully I should have my second seton removed in mid november and will probably be heading for another operation after a new mri scan.

  9. I have been struggling with perianal disease for three years and have spent way to much time in hospital and had 7 surgeries now and waiting on the waitlist for the operating room as we speak to give me a bag so it will hopefully let my bottom heal up. This being said that means I am definitely going to need one or two more surgeries if it works but I have been dealing with crohns for 19 years and never had any luck so I have no faith

  10. I have this at the moment! But unfortunately it went into my bowel. How does the seton get removed? How long after did you return to work ??

  11. You could have the Seton in for as long as the doctor wantes it to stay in. I had one in for the same problem for almost a year once it’s drained you’re able to go back to work 3 4 days after as long as it’s bearable
