Bustos calls on Trump to turn corner on trade disputes

A Congresswoman from Illinois says President Trump will have a fight on his hands from her if he doesn’t turn the corner on trade disputes.

Democrat Cheri Bustos tells Brownfield the President’s unpredictable policies and shoot-from-the-hip approach puts America’s farmers at risk.

“We went from a little bit of a trade scuffle to what appears an escalating trade war.”

She says Trump has the power to stop growing trade tensions.

“If he wants to punish China for compromising our intellectual property and having unfair practices, then that’s one thing.  But we are now in a fight with not only China but with our biggest agricultural trading partners in Mexico and Canada.”

Bustos is calling on the President to follow through on his campaign promise to end the war on the American farmer.

“And now, to feel like he’s treating us as fly-over country, I feel like these are two parallel universes.  I’m ready for him to get back to saying he’s going to end this war on American farmers and let’s make some good things happen.”

Bustos plans to continue working with Democrats and Republicans to stop a trade war from spiraling out of control, but says real damage is already being done.
