Global Dairy Trade event index down

The Global Dairy Trade price index fell another 1.2% in Tuesday’s trade event.  The average price is now $3,481 per metric ton or $1.57 per pound.  The average also fell 1.3% in the last trading session on June 5th.

More than half of the product sold was whole milk powder, which was down 1% at $3,189 a ton or $1.44 per pound.  Skim milk powder was down 1.1% at $2,003 a metric ton or $0.90 a pound and accounted for about one-fourth of Wednesday’s sales.

The Cheddar cheese index fell 3.6% to $3,847 a metric ton or $1.74 a pound, and anhydrous milk fat fell 2.5% to $6,060 a ton or $2.74 a pound.  The only gains were butter, up eight-tenths of a percent at $5,611 per ton or $2.54 a pound and lactose up 8.2% to $769 a ton or $0.34 a pound.
