Mescalero seniors collect more than $161,000 in scholarships

The largest award was a $52,000 scholarship to Northern New Mexico College

Academic high achievers among graduating seniors at Mescalero High School received more than $161,000 in scholarships this year.

The seniors at Mescalero High School who received scholarships and were recognized at the awards night pose outside the school.

And academic advisors said several scholarships still are pending from three sources.

Those recognized at recent awards event were:

 - Shane Antonio, who received a $1,000 Gaming Scholarship and a $1,500 John Shendo Scholarship.

- Jeremy Begay, who received a $1,500 Gaming Scholarship; a $1,000 Otero Prison Scholarship; $2,700 Tharp Educational Scholarship Trust; $500  from Otero Federal Credit Union; $12,000 from 1888 Leadership Scholarship New Mexico State; $250 Gerald Champion Auxiliary Scholarship; $12,000 Hamilton Scholarship and $1,500 John Shendo Scholarship.

- Katerine Blake, who received a $1,500 John Shendo Scholarship

- Sharena Burgess, who received $1,000  IAIA Scholarship and $1,500 John Shendo Scholarship.

- Lily Comanche, who received a $1,500 John Shendo Scholarship

- Mihlene Hosetosavit-Bigmouth, who received a  $1,000  IAIA Scholarship

- Matias LaPaz, who received a $1,000 Gaming Scholarship

- James Little-Youngman, who received a $300 Democratic Party of Otero County scholarship, a $4,000 Otero Electric Vocational two-year program alternate and a             $1,500 John Shendo Scholarship

- Arianna Mangas, who received a $500  IAIA Scholarship and $1,500 John Shendo Scholarship

- Dashawn Monte, who received a $500  IAIA Scholarship

- Eulalia Peganse, who received a  $1,000 Otero Prison Scholarship;                               $6,000 “A” Mountain Merit Scholarship New Mexico State;  $500 Gerald Champion  Auxiliary Scholarship; $8,000 Hamilton Scholarship; $8,000 Otero Electric 4 year College Alternate; and a $1,500 John Shendo Scholarship.                                                           

- Tierney Shanta, who received a $500  IAIA Scholarship

- Andrea Valenzuela, who received a $1,000 Gaming Scholarship; $12,000 1888 Leadership Scholarship New Mexico State; and a $1,500 John Shendo Scholarship

-  Hailee Williams, who received a  $1,000 Gaming Scholarship; $6,000 "A" Mountain Merit Scholarship NM State; $250  Gerald Champion Auxiliary Scholarship; $1,500 John Shendo Scholarship; and a $600 Preceptor Alpha Pi.

-  Katelyn Yuzos, who received a $52,000 Scholarship to Northern New Mexico College; $6,000 "A" Mountain Merit Scholarship NM State; and a $1,500 John Shendo Scholarship.
