PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Nate Strelka, Kettle Moraine: The Lasers have taken a three-game lead in the Classic 8 with the help of the senior pitcher. He was the pitcher of record in two victories over Muskego last week, allowing two earned runs and striking out eight in five innings. At the plate, he hit .367 with three stolen bases and four RBI. A week earlier he pitched 6 ⅓ innings of combined shutout ball in wins over Waukesha West June 4 and a save against Waukesha North June 8.

Honorable mention

Gino D’Alessio, Pius XI: The Popes entered the week atop the Woodland West as well as our area rankings, in part, because of the play of their senior catcher. He hit .533 (6 for 13) with four RBI to help the team go 4-1 last week, a stretch that included four road games. The highlight was a 2-for-3 effort with a double, triple, stolen base and RBI in a 6-2 victory at  New Berlin West Wednesday.

Logan King, Cedarburg: The senior lefty helped the Bulldogs snap a six-game skid with a complete game shutout of Whitefish Bay on June. 8. King allowed three hits in the 3-0 victory and struck out seven.

Sam Swittel, Greendale: The junior first basemen went 8 for 14 with five RBI to help the Panthers go 2-2 last week. In the last two weeks he is hitting (13 for 24) with eight RBI.

TEAMS OF THE WEEK

Germantown: After a 1-4 start in the Greater Metro, the Warhawks are picking up steam. They entered the week 8-5 in the conference with a six-game winning streak overall. The team went 4-0 with league victories over West Allis Hale, Oak Creek, Franklin and Menomonee Falls. Junior Cole Hessler saved each victory. Senior Ben Bradenburg (6 for 13, .461) and junior Joe Seymour (5 for 12, .417) were top producers at plate.

Brown Deer: The Falcons snapped a 44-game losing streak with a 13-12 victory over SWCHA Friday.  The team’s last victory was July 1, 2016.
