Ruidoso's annual marathon sets the pace this weekend
Races for hard-line marathon runners, half-marathon competitors, children and 5-K enthusiasts will give everyone plenty of exercise this weekend

Ruidoso is readying for the annual Marathon and Half-Marathon and Schlotzsky's Bun Run this weekend.
"Participation medals will be awarded for everyone who signs up, as well as metals for first, second and third place finishers in each gender and age category.," Hawk Scott, recreation coordinator with the Ruidoso Parks and Recreation Department, said.
All shirts for Saturday and Sunday races will be Dri-Fit.
The Schlotzsky's 5K Bun Run begins at 5:10 p.m., June 23, counter clockwise around The Links Golf Course on the recreational path that is mostly flat with a few hills. The registration fee is $30 until noon June 23, and $40 after that.
The Kids Fun Run for 12 and under begins at 5:30 p.m. June 23, on a one-mile course on the recreational path. Runne"rs will head out toward the Ruidoso library and then back, Parents are welcome to participate for free with their children, but will not receive a shirt. The registration fee is $10.
The full marathon of 26.219 miles begins at 6 a.m. June 24, at the Inn of the Mountain Gods on the Mescalero Apache Reservation that adjoing the village, and finishes behind the Hidden Tap on Rio Street in midtown Ruidoso. The fee is $75 until noon June 23, and $85 for last minute.
The half marathon is 13.109 miles and begins at 7:30 a.m., June 24. The fee is $65 until noon June 2,3 and then $75.
Packet pickup is from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., June 23, at the White Mountain Recreational Complex in Ruidoso, 685 Hull Road.
The Cash Prize Package for each gender and each category is:
- Full Marathon (Male and Female(70 and over, 55 to 69, 40 to 54, 25 to 39, and 24 and under) first place, $200, second place, $100 and third place, $50.
- Half Marathon (Male and Female, 70 and over, 55 to 69, 40 to 54, 25 to 39, and 24 and under) first place $100. second place, $50 and third place $25.
- 5K (Male and Female, 70 and over, 55 to 69, 40 to 54, 25 to 39, and 24 and under, first place $ 75, second place $ 50 and third place $ 25.
- 1K Kids Run (Male and Female, 12-11, 10-8, 7 and under), first place $ 50, second place, $ 35 and third place, $ 20.
