Giuliani Flames Out When CNN's Tapper Confronts Him About Trump's Lying: 'It Breaks One of the Commandments - I think'
CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday cornered Donald Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani over the president’s false statement to the New York Times, asking if it’s “wrong” to lie to the American people.
Trump on Friday dismissed a misleading statement he gave last year about a clandestine meeting between top members of his campaign and Russian nationals offering dirt on Hillary Clinton. Trump claimed his original, false, explanation about the meeting was “irrelevant” because he gave the statement to the New York Times and not “a high tribunal of judges.”
“Obviously it’s not illegal to lie to the American people, to lie to the press, but isn’t it wrong to lie no matter what?” Tapper asked.
“Of course it’s wrong to lie, it breaks one of the commandments, I think,” Giuliani replied before arguing Trump’s “distinction is a correct one.”
“Lie is a heck of a conclusion,” he continued, arguing the issue at hand is one of “differing recollections” as opposed to nefarious untruths.
