SE Minnesota farmer succinctly says “crops look good”

A southeast Minnesota farmer is pleased with how his crops have come on after a late start to planting.

Brock Olson of Welch says once fieldwork began, the weather straightened out.

“Planting went very well as soon as we got in the fields.  Conditions were good, temperatures were warm, and moisture was good as well.”

Minnesota farmers dealt with late April snow and frequent rains the first half of May.

Olson tells Brownfield the crops don’t reflect a challenging spring.

“Emergence on all the crops was very good.  We had very good soil temperatures and things are looking good.”

He says the focus right now is controlling weeds that have emerged alongside his corn and soybeans.

Crop condition ratings in Minnesota are among the highest nationally, with 90 percent of the state’s corn acreage and 86 percent of the soybeans rated good to excellent.
