John Legend and Chrissy Teigen Each Donate $72,000 to the ACLU for Trump's Birthday - And Offer a Blistering Critique of His Presidency

It’s Donald Trump’s 72nd birthday, and in order to celebrate the “auspicious occasion,” frequent critic Chrissy Teigen and her husband, John Legend, donated 72,000 to the ACLU—and offered a blistering critique of the president’s policies.

“John and I are outraged to see and hear the horror stories of immigrant families seeking asylum and refuge in America being ripped apart due to the inhumane policies of the Trump administration,” Teigen wrote in message posted to Twitter. “These actions are cruel, anti-family, and go against everything we believe this country should represent.”

Teigen wrote the ACLU is “committed to defending the rights and humanity of these vulnerable families” and “holding the Trump administration accountable whenever possible.”

“The president celebrated his 72nd birthday today,” Teigen wrote. “On this auspicious occasion, in order to Make Trump’s Birthday Great Again, each member of our family has donated $72,000 to the ACLU.”

The Trump administration has come under fire for a policy implemented earlier this month by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, which implemented a “zero tolerance” family separation policy that separates children from their parents upon detention at the border.

Tuesday, Sessions issued another new rule rolling back protections for asylum seekers. Sessions said being the victim of domestic abuse or gang violence is no longer grounds for asylum in the United States.
