On the state's biggest stage, Mattie Bredeson took matters into her own hands.

The Poynette senior pitcher delivered a gem to lead the Pumas (24-1) to the Division 3 state softball championship with a 2-0 win over Tomahawk (16-8) on Saturday at Goodman Softball Complex in Madison.

Bredeson faced the minimum number of batters, allowing just one base runner while striking out nine.

Bredeson's single to lead off the fourth inning also led to the eventual winning run for the Pumas as Peyton Kinglsand came on as a pinch runner, stole second and then scored on a throwing error while stealing third.

Division 4

Horicon left no doubt as to who the top team in Division 4 was thanks to a dominant state performance.

The Marshladies (28-1) followed up a 10-0, five-inning win in Friday's semifinal against Pacelli with an 11-0 downing of Thorp (17-8) on Saturday morning.

Sophomore pitcher Allison Tillema nearly became the first player in history to throw two no-hitters at state, allowing just one hit while spinning a shutout against the Cardinals. In the semifinal, Tillema no-hit Pacelli.

Division 5

Chippewa Falls McDonell Catholic became the lone team to repeat as state champion by jumping on the Oakfield pitching early and letting pitcher Megan Baier take over from there in a 5-2 victory.

The Macks jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings on a two-run single by Abby Opsal in the first and a two-run error in the second.

Baier, a senior, took over from there, allowing just two unearned runs in the third inning. For the game, she gave up four hits and no walks while striking out four.

McDonnell went 20-1 while Oakfield finished 24-5.
