Nebraska Farm Bureau reacts to tariffs dispute

The director of national affairs for Nebraska Farm Bureau says the tariffs dispute with Mexico, Canada and the EU is very concerning.

Jordan Dux says while farmers have been generally supportive of President Trump’s efforts to break down trade barriers, some are now starting to question his tactics.

“It is certainly unfortunate, from our standpoint, that the President and the administration has decided to do this strong-arm approach and try to back folks into a corner,” Dux says.

He says trade disputes can have both short- and long-term consequences.

“We have seen that for a little over a year now, where you have countries that we have relied on to import a lot of our ag products are starting to look to other countries to maybe diversify their supply chain.”

Dux says the tariffs create additional uncertainty in ag markets and in the minds of farm and ranch families.
