Canadian Mining Company First Quantum Minerals is walking away from the Toxic Gold and Copper Mega Mine.
First Quantum has decided not to pursue its planned Investment in the Pebble Mine, a Project that threatens Alaska's Bristol Bay Wilderness, its World-renowned Salmon Runs and Wildlife, and its Native Communities.
This momentous decision came just weeks after a Delegation of Alaskan Leaders traveled to Toronto to attend First Quantum's Shareholder Meeting and meet with the Company's CEO.
At the Meeting, they presented First Quantum CEO, Philip Pascall, with over 250,000 Petitions in Opposition to the Pebble Mine, including 100,000 from NRDC Members and Activists.
And First Quantum has now done the right thing: it listened to Advocates and the People of Bristol Bay and Walked Away from the Pebble Mine.
We hope First Quantum's decision to Abandon the Project helps Close the Door on this Ill-Conceived and Reckless Scheme for good.
