Two milligrams of fentanyl.

A 28-year-old man who overdosed while driving a vehicle with a 15-month-old child inside has been charged with possession of fentanyl, operating a vehicle under the influence and child neglect by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

Jacob D. Bednarz was driving with his girlfriend and her child on West Loomis Road on  Saturday when he began to lose consciousness, according to a news release from the Greenfield Police Department.

His girlfriend had to take control of the wheel and tell Bednarz to stop for traffic in front of them. Bednarz then lost consciousness and reportedly stopped breathing.

He was revived at the scene by Greenfield emergency medical services, according to the release, and said he had ingested what he thought was heroin.

He gave the remaining amount to police officers and preliminary testing found the substance to be fentanyl.

Bednarz was taken to a hospital for treatment before he was taken to the Milwaukee County Jail.
