A man has been charged with kidnapping after taking a 2-year-old boy from a Glendale home last week and later abandoning him in a nearby shed, police and court records show.

Immanuel Williams, 28, is accused of forcing his way into a home around 2:30 a.m. May 13, near 67th and Maryland avenues, and physically assaulting a babysitter, Glendale police said.

After assaulting the babysitter, police say, Williams took a 2-year-old boy from the home.

Williams, who was on parole for drug possession, had been evicted from his condominium about three days earlier because of his explosive behavior, Maricopa County court records show.

Court records show Williams knew the 2-year-old's mother for about seven years and recently moved in with her. Williams is unrelated to the child and has no custodial rights, Glendale police said.

After calling the mother for a ride from a party, Williams went to the home and began pounding on the door, screaming to be let in, court records said.

The babysitter was watching two children, ages 7 and 2, court records said. When the babysitter didn't open the door, Williams damaged the security door and pushed his way through the front door, court records said.

Williams began breaking items in the home, saying he would "kill everyone" and grabbed the babysitter around the neck and lifted her off her feet by her neck which almost caused her to black out, court records said.

Breaking free, the babysitter ran from the apartment to the Circle K across the street to call for help, court records said.

When she arrived at the Circle K, the babysitter saw Williams run out of the home with the 2-year-old under his right arm, court records said.

The babysitter called police for help, prompting officers to establish a perimeter within the neighborhood and a canvass search to find the child and Williams, Glendale police said.

The 7-year-old sibling said she hid under a blanket next to her brother when Williams first came in the home and she saw him grab her little brother and run out the door, court records said.

Nearly six hours later, at 8:35 a.m., Glendale police found the boy alone in an abandoned shed, lying in a pile of vomit. The temperature was 105 degrees in the shed when police found the child, court records said.

Following a medical examination, the child was found to be in good health and was returned to his mother, Glendale officials said.

Two days later, on May 15, Williams was found and arrested.

Glendale police said Friday he was charged with kidnapping, assault, child abuse, endangerment, threatening and intimidating custodial interference, and burglary. His next court appearance is set for May 29.
