Family Rec Center hosts free holiday swim Memorial Day

ALAMOGORDO – The Alamogordo Family Recreation Center (AFRC) is hosting a free holiday swim day on Memorial Day from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. 

Free swim day is open to the community. 

To ensure all patrons have a safe and pleasant experience, all facility and pool rules will be in effect including the following: 

  • All pool patrons must be in proper swim attire
  • Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult at all times
  • Children under the age of 6 must be within arms-reach of an adult at all times and no more than two children per adult. 
  • One the pool has reached maximum capacity (per state code), no other patrons will be allowed to enter. 

Expanded summer pool hours 

Pool hours will be expanded during the summer from Tuesday, May 29 until August 12.

Below is the expanded pool schedule (pool openings and hours are subject to change due to weather, staff, availability and pool maintenance

The start time for public swim Monday through Friday has changed from last year and now begins at 1:30 p.m.

AFRC Pool Schedule: May 29 - August 12:

Lap Swim:

  • Monday-Friday: 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.
  • Monday-Friday: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Saturday & Sunday: 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Holidays (July 4): Closed

Public Swim:

  • Monday-Friday: 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Saturday & Sunday: 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Holidays (July 4): 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Other Memorial Day events

Monte Vista Cemetery will have a flag placement ceremony at 6:30 a.m. For more information contact Warren Booker at 437-0770. 

Immaculate Conception Cemetery will also have a flag placement ceremony also at 6:30 a.m. For more information contact 437-3291.

Over in the basin, the village of Tularosa will host a Memorial Day ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park, 901-989 N. Bookout Rd., at 11 a.m. For more information contact Milt Chestnut at 446-9045.
