NAFTA negotiations continue

Trade officials from the three NAFTA countries continue efforts to hammer out a new deal.

Disagreements between the U.S. and Mexico over auto manufacturing remain a hold-up, although Mexico has expressed a willingness to move further toward the U.S. position to get a deal done.

U.S. concerns with Canada’s dairy supply management system are also unresolved.

Mexico’s economy minister today put the chances of getting a new NAFTA deal before Mexico’s July 1st elections at 40 percent. He said for a deal to be reached, U.S. negotiators would need to show more flexibility.
