A kickball tournament marking the end of the school year has become a tradition at White Mountain Elementary.

The first-place winning team was called the Dream Pandas.

Students look forward from third grade for the day they are 5th-graders and can compete in the annual kickball tournament, teacher Jessica Trujillo said. The tournament is organized by teachers to promote teamwork, perseverance and school spirit.

Students begin practicing in the fall, create a team name and select team colors. The classes scrimmage one another throughout the year before contending in the annual event.

This year’s winners, “The Dream Pandas,” were from the Aisela Magnana-Lasha Brown homerooms. The second-place team, “TNT,” was from Trujillo’s class and the third-place team, “The Purple People Eaters,” was from Rachel Lutterman’s class.

The 5th-grade teachers thank Walmart, Albertsons, Thriftway and the Ruidoso Parks and Recreation Department for their support.

The gold team called TNT won second place.
The Purple People Eaters took third place in the kickball competition.
