Crews rescued a person found to be in distress in the ocean off Pacific Coast Highway between Point Mugu and Malibu on Thursday morning and took the person to a local hospital, authorities said.

Ventura County Fire Department Capt. Stan Ziegler said the 911 call about the person came in just after 8 a.m. in the water across from the Neptune’s Net restaurant, 42505 Pacific Coast Highway.

When crews arrived, they found several people pulling the unconscious person from the ocean, Ziegler said.

A helicopter was requested at the scene, with lanes of the highway shut down so it could land. The person was taken to a hospital by the helicopter and by that time was in stable condition, Ziegler said.
