Michigan farmer says he wishes he was planting

A no-till farmer says while he can’t control the weather that’s keeping him from planting, there are other uncertainties that farmers shouldn’t have to worry about.

“I don’t think any farmer needs the added stress of worrying about whether they’re going to be able to get enough money to keep their operation going, let alone make a profit.”

Fifth-generation farmer Dave Williams grows soybeans, corn and wheat in Mid-Michigan. He tells Brownfield the farm bill and trade agreements have become as unpredictable as this year’s planting season.  “Let’s control the things we can control and then we’ll deal with the weather.”

Williams says he’s been delayed almost two weeks because of wet conditions.  “It seems like we get some rain and then it just about gets right so we can plant, and then we get some more rain.”

Williams says all his corn acres are planted and he hopes to finish soybean planting over the weekend.
