Illinois corn planting winding down

Illinois corn planting is winding down and farmers made good progress last week with soybean planting and hay cutting. Temperatures and rain were above normal. The Illinois USDA NASS office says corn planted was at 96 percent, as of Sunday, ahead of last year and the average. Corn emerged was at 84 percent. Corn condition was rated mostly good to excellent.Soybeans planting was 81 percent complete, well ahead of last year and the average. Soybeans emergence was at 57 percent.  Sorghum planted was at 30 percent. Winter wheat headed is not quite 75% complete, behind last year but in line with the five-year average. Winter wheat condition is more than 50% GOOD condition with 25% fair.
