What do labels on beef mean about how cattle are raised?

Mandy Carr  with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association says almost all cattle are raised on pasture, but there are some differences which can be separated into four main labels in a meat case.

Animal science experts say steak from a hormone implanted animal does have more estrogen, but it’s a very small amount. The average female would have to eat more than 2,000 pounds of beef per day to get the same amount of estrogen as one birth control pill.

All meat has been tested and must be free of antibiotics before being sold.
